We’re right in the middle of the most wonderful time of the year! Things tend to “sparkle and shine” more, people are excited to give and share more, and overall there seems to be a bit more “happi” going on. I decided to combine some of those things into a project that anyone can do. It’s easy and inexpensive and adds that special touch to this holiday season.
I’m talking about…
All that glitters!
{ DIY GLITTER gift tags }
I’m sharing a DIY glitter gift tags project along with some free printables. I’m so excited to share this with you because I have gained an immense amount of enthusiasm for glitter. Yes, GLITTER! I can now see why it is all the rage right now.
I got this wonderful batch of Recollection glitter (sold exclusively at Michaels Stores). It starts at only $3.99, and it comes in different sizes and various multi-packs! I also love that it comes in an awesome variety of colors and textures (very fine, chunky and tinsel). I like them all for different reasons, but I think my favorite is the very fine, which I used for these DIY glitter gift tags.
Check this out!
Oh my goodness! I found a new love. 🙂 I’ll be honest and admit that in all my crafting days, I’ve never been a huge fan of glitter. Then, when I had an opportunity to work with this glitter, all of that changed. I can’t wait to start my next glitter project! The possibilities are endless! But first, let me share these DIY glitter gift tags with you.
First you will need to gather a few simple supplies:
Printable gift tags {download links are at the end of this post}
(any tags should do although the glue works best on a flat vs a glossy surface)
Scissors
Hole punch
Twine or ribbon (1/2 inch or thinner)
Glue pen —->>it’s pictured above with the beautiful aqua cap
{I used the Martha Stewart glue pen sold at Michaels for $2.99 regular retail price}
RECOLLECTION glitter
{For this project, I prefer cherry red, lime green, and clear white glitter called Glitz–all in the very fine textures.}
I am going to start with these simple gift tags:
Once you have your supplies, a set of six tags will only take a few minutes to complete. You will seriously have them done quicker than reading this post! {Eeeek, sorry for the lengthy details}
1. Print the tags on a card stock paper that runs through your printer ok. You can use store bought tags or ones you have on hand also. Use what works for you!
2. Cut out the tags and start glittering!
3. I suggest just free handing the name with your glue pen (or you may lightly trace a pattern with pencil). The glue pen is super easy to use and you can lightly see it go on the paper. Use it as if it was an ink pen.
4. Using a regular piece of paper under your work surface to collect any stray glitter, generously cover the glued area of your tags with glitter. After a few seconds, you are ready to return the excess glitter back into the container. Don’t be afraid of this step…it really can be done with minimal to no mess at all!
5. Punch your holes using the guide on the printed tags.
6. Add a piece of twine or ribbon to the tags.
I like these because it gives an extra caring homemade feel that adds some pizzaz to your gifting.
Here are the results:
The next two batches are done with the same instructions, except I give you a guide to use with your pen.
Here are the completed tags:
See what a fun gift a candle & lighter can be with this cute tag?!!
These look super awesome with the clear white fine glitter over the “SANTA” on Santa tags and the “Merry & Bright” and “Happy Holidays” greetings. It amazes me how well the glitter goes on and stays. It gives a raised sparkle that appears 3-D!
I know some of you would like some special “Santa Tags”. I think these would do nicely! After all, Elves certainly know how to use a little glitter. Right?

You know how I said that the possibilities are endless with uses for this glitter? Well, yes they are! You could use the same concept for these tags on many everyday projects all year round. In fact I did this little project while I was making my DIY glitter gift tags…
I added my favorite word to my display chalkboard!
Wishing you all a wonderful week!
Enjoy!
