Last year I shared some calendars to to help with the Light the World campaign. I’m sharing the Light the World Christmas 2017 version here today!
Then spake Jesus again unto them saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. -John 8:12
I love Christmas! Some of my favorite things are the music, the lights, the parties, spending time with my family, giving to others, acts of kindness, the smiles we see on children’s faces and I could go on… and on… I feel like all of this is brought on by the love of Jesus as we celebrate His life. Each Christmas, we celebrate the life of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. By following His teachings and example, we let His light shine in our lives and in the lives of others. Christmas is such a wonderful time to let our light shine through love and service to others. Christmas is often called the season of giving. Let’s plan out our season by giving of ourselves in some way for… 25 DAYS IN 25 WAYS!
Here’s a teaser video of what the campaign is about. They have a new video each day in December leading up to Christmas. You can find those all HERE.
and… Here is Day one. I love this concept!
Light the World Christmas 2017
This Christmas season, use this calendar for inspiration as you plan activities to help #LightTheWorld by serving those in need. There are so many things that can be done. For a little inspiration you can look at last years calendar HERE and I also shared many acts of service ideas on my recent “Little Lamb from Bethlehem” post, HERE You can also visit LDS.org or Mormom.org for more on this topic.
Thinking about serving others, I’d like to share a personal experience that has encouraged me to reach out to others in love and service. About 15 years ago I’d come off of a difficult time in my life after losing my sister to cancer and nearly losing my husband to a blood clot to the lung. Several changes in my life had affected me deeply around this time. I knew that to remain happy and stay on top of things I needed to be mindful of others more instead of myself. I loved the quiet times I had alone in the mornings when everyone got off to school or work before me. I decided that I would sing this certain song that I loved and see if it would influence my life for GOOD throughout the day. Here’s the song I sang out loud all by myself every morning.
“Have I Done Any Good in The World Today?”
Have I done any good in the world today?Have I helped anyone in need?Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad?If not, I have failed indeed.Has anyone’s burden been lighter todayBecause I was willing to share?Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way? When they needed my help was I there?
[Chorus]
Then wake up and do something more
Than dream of your mansion above.
Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure,
A blessing of duty and love.
There are chances for work all around just now,Opportunities right in our way.Do not let them pass by, saying, “Sometime I’ll try,”But go and do something today.’Tis noble of man to work and to give;Love’s labor has merit alone.Only he who does something helps others to live.To God each good work will be known.
[Chorus]
Then wake up and do something more
Than dream of your mansion above.
Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure,
A blessing of duty and love.
Well there it is. Did it help me? How could it not? Try it for your self!
Ok here is a set of calendars to follow along with the 25 ways in 25 days. You can use the filled out calendar with scripture and example to follow along. You could also combine it with the blank calendar or use the blank calendar to add your own ideas.
