With a new year comes a renewed interest to improve, set goals, and make resolutions.
I must admit that I have never been too big on resolutions, but I have had great success with one word, a quote, or statement to focus on for the year. I also have learned that “baby steps” has been very successful for me.
One word + baby steps = success
So…
here it is.
in writing.
My word for 2013! FOCUS!
That’s right!
FOCUS:
A center of interest or activity.
To concentrate attention or energy.
A point upon which attention, activity, etc., is directed or concentrated.
Maximum clarity or distinctness of an idea.
Special emphasis attached to something.
Direct one’s attention on something.
Bring into focus or alignment; to converge or cause to converge; of ideas or emotions.
Adapt or conform oneself to new or different conditions.
Zero in on: To focus one’s attention on a specific person, proposal, issue, or other matter; to aim at; to set one’s sights on.
I chose this word because in reality I believe that by putting emphasis on “FOCUSING” on whats important I will achieve more. I also know that this tends to be a weakness of mine. I actually have a hard time focusing–my thoughts are usually one step ahead of my actions and I tend to move on to something new before completing something.
So…
I WILL FOCUS!
I allow myself to become easily distracted so in my quest to become more focused I found this amazing little e-book that has some awesome stuff in it to help me. Its called
{focus: A simplicity manifesto in the ‘Age of Distraction’}
and it can be found here.
An excerpt in my early reading caught my attention…
” It’s meant to be short, simple, concise. We’ll talk about some of the
problems we face as we try to live and create in a world of overwhelming
distractions. And we’ll look at some simple ways to solve those problems.
And yet, at the heart of this simple book lies the key to many of the
struggles we face these days, from being productive and achieving our goals,
to getting healthy and fit in the face of fast food and inactivity, to finding
simplicity and peace amidst chaos and confusion.
That key is itself simple: focus.
Our ability to focus will allow us to create in ways that perhaps we haven’t
in years. It’ll allow us to slow down and find peace of mind. It’ll allow us to
simplify and focus on less — on the essential things, the things that matter
most. “
So thats it. Because I love quotes, I made a print of 13 quotes for myself to help me stay in FOCUS.
Enjoy!
