It’s the last month of the year. Yep! The December 2019 Calendar is here and 2020 will soon be upon us. Lets aim to make this the best month ever as we end one decade and begin another.
December 2019 Calendar
December is usually my favorite month of the year. We have pretty good weather here in Arizona and I love the holiday season. It’s filled with love and joy and a feeling of giving. That’s what drew me to this months thought.
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. -Gandhi
Anytime is a great time to serve others but for me December is an exceptional time to do it. There are so many opportunities to serve. I have had a rough year health wise and have had many people serve me with meals, help around my home and thoughts and prayers. Since I’ve been feeling better I’d like to be the one serving someone else so I think December’s thought and challenge is a great way for me to do this.
Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others? -Martin Luther King
What are you doing for others? This is a great question to ask ourselves daily. Lose yourself in doing for others and we can find ourselves happier. I know it!
Being of service to others is what brings true happiness. -Marie Osmond
And here are a few more of my favorite quotes on service…
- “As we lose ourselves in the service of others we discover our own lives and our own happiness.” Dieter F. Uchtdorf
- “Service doesn’t have to be big and grandiose to be meaningful and make a difference.” Cheryl A. Esplin
- “Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” Howard Zinn
- “You have two hands. One to help yourself, the second to help others.” Audrey Hepburn.
- “Do some selfless service for people who are in need. Consider the whole picture, not just our little selves.” Nina Hagen
- “If you really want to receive joy and happiness, then serve others with all your heart. Lift their burden, and your own burden will be lighter.” Ezra Taft Benson
- “If you get, give. If you learn, teach.” – Maya Angelou.
- “When you dig another out of their troubles, you find a place to bury your own.” – Author Unknown.
- “It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little – do what you can.” – Sydney Smith
- “Everybody can be great because, everybody can serve.” – Martin Luther King Jr
- Give your hands to serve, and your hearts to love. Mother Teresa
Speaking of service, I’d like to share a personal experience that has encouraged me to reach out to others in love and service. About 17 years ago I’d come off of a difficult time in my life after losing my sister to cancer and nearly losing my husband to a blood clot to the lung. Several changes in my life had affected me deeply around this time. To remain happy and stay on top of things I needed to be mindful of others more instead of myself. I loved the quiet times I had alone in the mornings when everyone got off to school or work before me. So I decided that I would sing this certain song that I loved and see if it would influence my life for GOOD throughout the day. Here’s the song I sang out loud all by myself every morning.
“Have I Done Any Good in The World Today?”
Have I done any good in the world today?Have I helped anyone in need?Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad?If not, I have failed indeed.Has anyone’s burden been lighter todayBecause I was willing to share?Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way? When they needed my help was I there?
[Chorus]
Then wake up and do something more
Than dream of your mansion above.
Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure,
A blessing of duty and love.
There are chances for work all around just now,Opportunities right in our way.Do not let them pass by, saying, “Sometime I’ll try,”But go and do something today.’Tis noble of man to work and to give;Love’s labor has merit alone.Only he who does something helps others to live.To God each good work will be known.
[Chorus]
Then wake up and do something more
Than dream of your mansion above.
Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure,
A blessing of duty and love.
Well there it is. Did it help me? How could it not? Try it for your self!

You had a calendar for October that showed every day something like “Mad Hatter Day”. Do you have one for December?
