1. Gather all ingredients:
Large Micro-safe bowl (a tall mixing bowl with a handle would work awesome if you have one) *It must be large enough to handle Bubbling mixture it can grow up to 3 times when cooking
large paper bag
1 to 1 1/4 cup air popped popcorn yielding 15-20 cups
1 cube butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup karo syrup
2 Tbls water
1 tsp vanilla
Salt ( a sprinkling on warm popcorn and a dash in your mix)
1-2 tsp green food coloring
1 tsp baking soda
2. Prepare recipe by:
Put air popped popcorn in brown paper bag ( I lightly salted my popcorn)
Put all other ingredients minus the food coloring and baking soda in micro safe bowl. Cook on normal power for 3 minutes. Stir well and then return to microwave for another 3 minutes. Mixture will be bubbling. Stir in food coloring to make a dark green color and then add baking soda. Return to micro for another 15 to 30 seconds. Pull out while it is bubbling and pour over popcorn in paper bag. Stir or shake mixture to coat well. Fold bag closed and put in micowave for 45-60 seconds. Shake very well, and or stir in bag and then return to microwave for another 45-60 seconds. Shake again and then remove from bag onto thin layers on baking sheets. It should crisp up within minutes and it can be broken up and packaged.
MmmmMmmmm 🙂

Due to interest, I made smaller tags for these that can be printed 10 to a 8.5×11 page for anyone who would like them. I just made some Zombie BOOgers popcorn for a party and served them in a witches caldron.

Britney {Jesse's Girl} says
Okay! Too cute! Ry would LOVE this!
Jillene says
All Ry has to do is trick or treat at my house and he will get a bag! He really would like it!
Christy says
I tried these and LOVE them! I will be making them again. I loved how they hardened up but still a great texture and the kids enjoyed them too. 🙂
Jillene says
Oh so glad you enjoyed them Christy! I agree about the texture… that and the flavor makes them hard to quit eating. 😉
Atina says
I love this recipe definitely going to try this out but is there a way to make the zombie boogers into smaller cards so we are not giving a huge bag to everyone in the class? Thanks
Jillene says
Atina, I think you could resize it but I am not sure what program you use to print them. I will resize them for you if you let me know the size and I can e-mail you the file. Let me know! 🙂
Atina says
I am just opening the program you have it on and printing it. Im trying to make them the size of a business card where there is like 10 on a sheet thanks
Jillene says
Atina,
I just added a copy of the tags 10 to a page. They can be downloaded and printed on 8.5×11 paper. Hope this helps! :):) See the updated version of this post above.

Im making the zombie boogers for my sons bday party. Is 1 cube of butter like 4 sticks? Also, does it need to be refridgerated or anything if I make it a day in advance? Thank you 🙂
Jillene says
I cube of butter is 1/2 cup or 1 stick. No it doesn’t need to be refrigerated and is good if made a day or two ahead. I’d keep it away from moisture once it sets up. Enjpy!
